Cycle through history on the amazing Erie Canalway Trail! The Erie Canal has been deemed "The Canal That Made America", with over 363 miles of cycling, this tour is packed with beautiful natural scenery, remarkable US history, and the incredible aqueducts, locks, lift bridges and canal parks of the historic Erie Canal. On this journey we'll cycle the full expanse of New York State from Buffalo to Albany passing through more than 200 colorful canal communities along the way. 

Getting Here:  Tour originates in Buffalo, NY. Free shuttle from Albany or Syracuse available. Return shuttle to Buffalo or Syracuse available for small charge.

Day 1:  Arrival

Arrive Buffalo. 

7:00 PM Trip Orientation

Day 2:  Buffalo to Medina

Cycling: 55 Miles

Start off with glorious cycling along the Niagara River and Tonawanda Waterfront where we enter the Gateway to the Erie Canal and on to Lockport and its famous Flight of Five Locks, we then cycle through about a dozen canal towns as we make our way to lovely Medina for our overnight.

Day 3:  Medina to Palmyra

Cycling: 70 Miles

Today’s ride travels through the quaint canal villages of Spencerport, Pittsford, and Fairport all boasting lovely and lively waterfront communities. From there its on to Palmyra with beautiful Pal-Mac Aqueduct Park, and charming Historic Palmyra which is wonderfully nostalgic, and the end of today's ride.

Day 4:  Palmyra to Syracuse

Cycling: 68 Miles

Today you'll cycle through the most remote areas along the historic Erie Canal passing through beautiful, rolling farmlands as you head for Syracuse, the midpoint of the Erie. In Syracuse make sure to visit the Erie Canal Museum, housed in the world's only remaining Weigh-lock building, which alone is well worth the visit!

Day 5:  Syracuse to Utica

Cycling: 60 Miles

We enjoy great cycling along the oldest sections of the canal. First up is Chittenango with its super cool living museum, next we'll encounter the intertwining of US Revolutionary War history, including fort Stanwix, as we continue on through Rome and onto Utica.

Day 6:  Utica to Amsterdam

Cycling: 65 Miles

We start with easy cycling on rural roads to Little Falls for lunch and exploring the quaint antique shops. After lunch we'll pass many historic sites, including Herkimer Home, Fort Plain and Schoharie Crossing before reaching Amsterdam on the banks beautiful Mohawk River!

Day 7:  Amsterdam to Albany

Cycling: 50 Miles

Enjoy today’s ride as we cycle through NY's Capital Region along the banks of the Mohawk River and passing through historic Schenectady, with Impressive Union College and past beautiful Cohoes Falls, before we drop the kickstand in Albany, the end of this amazing adventure!

Day 8:  Departure

9:00 AM - Return Shuttle to Buffalo and Syracuse or departure to your home-bound destinations.
