Cycle through history on the amazing Erie Canalway Trail! The Erie Canal has been deemed "The Canal That Made America", with over 363 miles of cycling, this tour is packed with beautiful natural scenery, remarkable US history, and the incredible aqueducts, locks, lift bridges and canal parks of the historic Erie Canal. On this journey you'll cycle the full expanse of New York State from Buffalo to Albany passing through more than 200 colorful canal communities along the way. 

Getting Here:  Tour originates in Buffalo, NY. Free shuttle from Albany or Syracuse available.

Day 1:  Arrival

Arrive Buffalo

7:00 PM Trip Orientation at hotel

Cycle The Erie Canal

Day 2:  Buffalo to Brockport

Cycling: 62 or 72 Miles

Cycling begins in either Buffalo at Mile Marker 0, or Tonawanda, where early engineers gouged the Erie from the Niagara River. Enjoy easy scenic cycling passing through beautiful rolling farmlands and many colorful canal towns as you make your way to Brockport, your destination for the evening. (Buffalo start adds 10 miles)

Day 3:  Brockport to Newark

Cycling: 57 Miles

Today’s ride travels through the quaint canal villages of Spencerport, Pittsford, and Fairport all boasting lovely and lively waterfront communities. From there its on to Palmyra with beautiful Pal-Mac Aqueduct Park, and finally reaching Newark for your evening stay.

Day 4:  Newark to Syracuse

Cycling: 58 Miles

Today you'll trace the most remote path of the historic Erie cycling through beautiful, rolling (aka hilly) farmlands, as you head for Syracuse the midpoint of the Erie. In Syracuse make sure to visit the Erie Canal Museum, housed in the world's only remaining Weigh-lock building, which alone is well worth the visit!

Day 5:  Syracuse to Utica

Cycling: 63 Miles

Enjoy great cycling along the oldest sections of the canal. First up is Chittenango with its super cool living museum. Next up you encounter the intertwining of US Revolutionary War history, including remarkable and historic Fort Stanwix, as you continue through Rome and onto Utica.

Day 6:  Utica to Amsterdam

Cycling: 65 Miles

Today starts with easy cycling on rural roads to Little Falls for lunch and exploring the quaint antique shops. After lunch you'll pass many historic sites, including Herkimer Home, Fort Plain and Schoharie Crossing before reaching Amsterdam on the banks beautiful Mohawk River!

Day 7:  Amsterdam to Albany

Cycling: 48 Miles

Enjoy today’s ride as you cycle through NY's Capital Region along the banks of the Mohawk River and passing through historic Schenectady, with Impressive Union College and past beautiful Cohoes Falls, before dropping the kickstand in Albany, the end of this amazing adventure!

Day 8:  Departure
